What is an Educational Psychologist? PDF Print E-mail

How are we qualified and what can we do?

Our training brings together our knowledge and experience of both education and psychology. We each have a degree in Psychology, we are also qualified and experienced teachers and have Master's degrees in Educational Psychology.

We can assess and advise regarding the education of children and adolescents who may have:-

  • A learning difficulty
  • A Specific Learning Difficulty (dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, ADHD,ADD, Asperger's Syndrome)
  • Speech and language difficulties
  • Visual or auditory sensory impairment
  • Behavioural difficulties
  • Or who may be ‘gifted’.

We are able to build a clear profile of a pupil or student's strengths and weaknesses and obtain a good understanding of their difficulties. We like to work closely with parents, teachers and (where relevant) other professionals in order to provide advice and to suggest strategies which will improve learning and confidence. We can advise about suitable and appropriate schooling and education. In addition to advising parents we can provide suggestions and support to school staff, SENCOs, classroom teachers and classroom assistants.

We can run training sessions for whole school staff in relation to: all areas of Specific Learning Difficulty, behavioural issues, social skills, emotional literacy, anger management, children's self esteem, home/school liaison, bullying and thinking skills.
