What kind of difficulties can we help with?
Most parents come to us because they have concerns, sometimes serious and sometimes just niggling, about their child's academic progress. These can relate to delayed or poor literacy, poor understanding of maths and number, lack of concentration for some types of work, difficulty in settling down to homework, poor motivation.
Some children are evidently bright and can read well but just don't seem to get things down in writing. Some children are disorganised and forgetful. Sometimes the extremely bright child just doesn't manage to perform at a more than average level in school but there is nothing apparently ‘wrong’, some pupils have difficulty in gaining and maintaining friends, some have problems with speech, language and social communication. Others have experienced bullying and some are just unhappy and reluctant to go to school. Parents often just want to know what school or type of school would be best for their child.
It is not unusual for parents to have been encouraged to seek an assessment by school staff or other professionals such as their doctor, paediatrician, occupational therapist or speech and language therapist.
